Incredible experience!! Matt and Jeanae provided such great hospitality. The house is a perfect set up for a retreat like this. Matt and Jeanae were very comforting in what could be a scary dive into the unknown. I would highly recommend this place for everyone that is interested in seeking out the ayahuasca experience. And my hope is that everyone in the world eventually will.

Words will never do justice to what I experienced here. Our group, Matt and Jeanae, other people around the house who swinged by, the cats and the whole land there was soul awakening. Mother nature is beyond powerful. She's eternal and beautiful and if you allow yourself to truly let go, you will meet our Great Mother Spirit. Thankful.

So amazing!!

Ayahuasca Retreats in Costa Rica

costa rica

The view from our back patio

Costa Rica is the perfect place for an ayahuasca retreat. The nature, beauty and laid back atmosphere contribute to the therapeutic value of our ayahuasca retreats. Costa Rica has an easy-going culture with the country motto “Pura Vida” which translates to “Pure Life.” The weather is perfect year round, with average temperatures around 77 degrees. Ticos (the local term for a Costa Rican), are said to be some of the happiest people in the world and it is easy to understand why.

Costa Rica has two seasons – dry season and rainy season. The rainy season is from around May/June – December and dry season is from around January – May/June.  Rainy season is great because everything is very green and alive and the mornings typically start out sunny and the rain comes in through out the day – its warm during the day but can cool off with the rains and at night. Dry season is great because it doesn’t rain, meaning warm days (still cool nights), clear skies and beautiful sunsets but the landscape gets very dry and ‘brown’. Please keep these factors in mind when booking your retreat.

Why choose New Life Ayahuasca in Costa Rica?

  • FACILITYOur modern facility provides comfort during this profound experience. Private rooms, attached bathrooms, hot water, WIFI, gym, pool, massage and vast property to explore all make our facility an ideal place for a healing retreat.
  • BREWOur brew is made in Peru by a reputable Shaman and is free of any potentially dangerous or harmful additives or fillers such as Daturda (toe) which if used in improper quantities could be fatal.
  • INTIMATE GROUPSWhile some ayahuasca retreat facilities will host up to 30 guests at once, we limit participation per retreat to 8 so we can provide individualized attention and support during such a profound experience.
  • TRAVELNot only is Costa Rica the safest country in Central America, but it is also extremely easy to get to. Flights are significantly cheaper (appx. $500 round trip) to Costa Rica than anywhere in South America, and we provide complimentary pick-up at SJO airport for arrivals between 11AM-1PM, making the transition to our facility stress-free.
  • SAFETYWhile ayahuasca is primarily considered safe, there are certain medications and conditions that could cause complications during participation. We conduct  a brief medical screening to be sure all participants can safely consume ayahuasca and are here to answer any questions you may have.
  • CEREMONIAL GUIDEMatt’s intentions and passion in his work are unparalleled. There is no question of his integrity and his sincerity in his mission to help others. His presence during ceremony is strong and grounding, and his Icaros and unique way of playing a Tibetan signing bowl help guide the participants’ experience.

New Life Ayahuasca is one of very few ayahuasca retreat facilities in Costa Rica. We conduct a medical screening (which few facilities include) to be sure all potential participants can safely consume ayahuasca. We provide all meals in accordance with the ayahuasca diet. All ayahuasca brew used at our ceremonies is made using only home-grown plants from Peru. All medicine is hand-made and free of datura(toe), which is a poisonous flower that can be dangerous, even fatal, if used in the wrong quantities. Our ceremonies are performed by a shaman or experienced ceremonial leader.

Why is ayahuasca illegal in the US?

In the United States, DMT is a Schedule I drug because of its hallucinogenic properties. The legal status in the United States of DMT-containing plants is somewhat questionable. Ayahuasca plants and preparations are legal, as they contain no scheduled chemicals. However, when the ingredients are used in a brew, the DMT becomes active, so any brew made using DMT containing plants is illegal. That said, some people are challenging this, using arguments similar to those used by religious sects. (From Wikipedia)

This forces most who want to experience ayahuasca retreats to travel outside the united states. Recently, with ayahuasca’s growing popularity, many ayahuasca facilities have opened in South America, specifically in Peru. This is why doing thorough research before picking a retreat facility is so important. Many of the new facilities that have popped up around the region of Peru have bad reputations or false shamans. Always know who is conducting ceremony and gather information about the brew used and what it contains.
